Safety distance, mask and hand hygiene! These are some of the indications that the first students received this morning when they arrived at the door of the School of Agronomists of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), where they were summoned to take their first face-to-face exams of this course, marked by the coronavirus pandemic.
The partials end on the 24th and are carried out under strict security measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The course will never be the same as before the outbreak of COVID-19 in March 2020.
Now, the classrooms are gauged at 50% of their capacity.
To access the suitably ventilated classrooms, students must use a mask, hydrogel and it is recommended to have the Radar COVID tracking application installed.
This morning for a mathematics exam in which 105 students had summoned, five classrooms have been enabled in Agrónomos.
Last year it would have been enough to have two classrooms planned.
As soon as the exam is finished, the students have to vacate the room, explains the director of the School of Agronomists, Arantxa Aznar.Students of the Microbiology subject, 3rd year of the Bachelor's Degree in Agri-Food Engineering and Biological Systems, have stated that they find it “indifferent” to take the exam online or in person.
"We have to study the same," they say. However, other students are not of the same opinion.
Ana Isabel Lajarín, 4th of Agronomists, prefers the online exam.
And Victoria Ferández thinks: “It is safer to examine ourselves from our homes.
Here you expose yourself to many people.
You do not know the situation in which each person may find themselves in regards to the risk of infection. Regarding hygiene and security measures, "we are used to it", say the students consulted.
Therefore "it is not uncomfortable for us."Continuous assessmentTwo intense weeks begin today in which the students, for the first time, have partial eliminatory tests and three opportunities to pass the course.
Students can reach the end of the semester with the approved subject.
“If they pass the partial tests (at least two) and carry out the requested work or reports, they pass in the February call before starting the official exam period.
If they have any part left, they can prepare it for February or July ”, explains the vice-rector for Teaching, Luis Javier Lozano.
Agronomist students consulted have shown their satisfaction with this novelty. Not all exams are face-to-face during these two weeks.
Some teachers have chosen to do the partial online taking advantage of the experience of the past year.
"The hope is that the evaluation proceeds without incident," says Lozano.
And now "we are waiting to see the development of the pandemic to plan the next exam period for the end of January"
