| Today the webinar "Remodeling of the Port of Cartagena An opportunity for the integration and opening of the city "| Manuel Torres: "Now we have the opportunity, not only to remodel the existing spaces, but also to think, imagine and propose how we want Cartagena to continue connecting with the sea, how we want to continue expanding our maritime façade and what model we conceive to build our city " Cartagena, November 14, 2020.- Today a webinar organized by the PSOE of Cartagena and moderated by the secretary general of the PSOE of Cartagena, Manuel Torres, has been held to address the remodeling proposed by the Port Authority for the Port of Cartagena area. The space for debate and reflection has had the presence of representatives of the architecture, heritage, environmental and mobility sectors to analyze the remodeling of the Port of Cartagena such as Marcos Ros, Jose Francisco López, Pedro García, David García, Luis de Miquel and Loto Fernández. Marcos Ros, architect and professor at the UPCT has indicated that "without a strategic idea of ??our municipality, the specific actions that are carried out, as in this case is this remodeling, cannot be addressed.
The lack of municipal planning means that this action does not address fundamental aspects and does not respond to needs such as connection or social cohesion with the surrounding neighborhoods ".
He also mentioned the need to "change the model of investments and infrastructures from the point of view of the ecological transition and sustainability, the digital transition and social cohesion.
This project suffers from this fundamental aspect with some neighborhoods stuck that with serious social problems ". Luis Enrique de Miquel, head of the Museum of Archeology of Murcia, has attended as a representative of the FAVCAC, he stressed that "the residents of Cartagena are very tired of projects and we are more interested in road maps, schedules and budgets ", in relation to the innumerable projects presented and that have not been put into practice. Jose Francisco López, heritage technician and art historian, has stated that "an urban remodeling must take into account the material and immaterial values ??of the historical heritage, which are what will ensure the success of the urban intervention", signifying the uniqueness of the seafront of the Port of Cartagena. David García, president of the neighborhood association of Santa Lucía, has denounced that "in Santa Lucía we have the sea there next to us, but we cannot touch it or see it because we have a wall of containers that prevents us from doing so." He recalled that the location of the container terminal "should be recovered for the city with the urban beach that our grandparents enjoyed and that has been taken from us." Loto Fernández, representative of the MoviliCT collective, has denounced that "the city is not prepared for the mobility needs of the citizens of Cartagena" in relation to the lack of determined will of the municipal authority to facilitate sustainable mobility in the municipality.
In relation to the remodeling project, it has affected that "the bike path that appears in the center of the avenue is very beautiful on paper, but it is neither practical nor easy to use." Pedro García, director of ANSE, has "a 'cachos' (urban) arrangement does not seem very coherent considering that the whole of the bay of Cartagena has had many changes in recent years, and it may be time to take into account it counts a complete remodeling and not a part ".
He also stressed that in his opinion "the bay of Cartagena needs to be re-naturalized and to gain shady green spaces". The act has been broadcast live through the Facebook page of the PSOE of Cartagena, where it can be seen again in addition to having been published on YouTube. From the PSOE of Cartagena we will continue to promote spaces for debate on matters as important to citizens as the one that has occupied us today. "It is essential to debate and meditate about the needs of the municipality, and for this reason, from the PSOE we are going to continue promoting these spaces for debate that encourage the sharing of different ideas and opinions in search of improving Cartagena", concluded Manuel Torres .
