The Cartagena City Council has launched a pilot project whose objective is the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE's) through specific containers for this type of waste, which is being installed by the Department of Infrastructures in different municipal offices."We started with a pilot project to promote the collection of household electrical and electronic devices that do not exceed 30 cm approximately and facilitate the recycling of this type of waste by officials by bringing the media closer to their workstation", as reported the councilor of the Area, María Casajús, such as a hairdryer, an iron, a radio, a mixer, calculator, electric knife, electric or electronic toys, etc.The mayor explained that "the first containers of this type have been installed in the administrative building of San Miguel and we are also placing them in the Youth Resource Center of Paseo de Alfonso XIII, in the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center and in the offices of firefighters and local police in the Security Park ”.During the past year 2019, a total of 121,775 kgs were collected between the two ecoparks.
"We want to increase this amount, therefore, we are going to extend it to the rest of the municipality, installing it in the OMITAS so that all Cartagena people have easy access to recycling this type of electrical equipment", highlighted María Casajús.With this initiative, which is carried out with the collaboration of REINICIA, the Councilor for Infrastructure explained that "it is intended to increase the amount of WEEE's recovered in the municipality and reduce the presence in garbage bags of this type of waste to avoid ending up in the El Gorguel landfill ”."The waste deposited will be transported periodically to the municipal ecoparks of La Vaguada and La Asomada", indicated Casajús, becoming part of the fractions corresponding to the different types of WEEE's delivered in said facilities by the residents of Cartagena.
