| This pilot program aims to reach the 176 minors in the Truancy Prevention program | The Department of Education of the City of Cartagena has launched a pilot program to provide students in vulnerable situations with mobile devices with which they can access their online classes.
Thus, the department directed by Irene Ruiz has acquired, for the moment, 24 tablets that it will distribute among students of the Absenteeism Prevention program. The devices will be transferred, as loans, to 24 schoolchildren who will be selected in this first phase of the project, in coordination between the program technicians, the educational centers and the families. After that, the aim of the council is to acquire more devices that will continue to be transferred to the rest of the students who need them in order to continue their training.
It should be remembered that during this course, students from various centers follow a blended teaching system, so that in the Infant Education, Primary and first cycle of ESO courses they must follow one day a week telematically, from home, and in the rest of the teaching courses, 50% of the classes are telematic. In this way, these devices will allow the schoolchildren of the program, aged between 6 and 16 years, to follow the telematic sessions.“The purpose of this project is to reach the 176 minors who are integrated in the School Absenteeism Prevention program.
We want no schoolchild to be left behind in this dramatic situation that we are experiencing as a result of the pandemic, therefore, we are going to make it easier with these tablets that they can follow their classes from home ”, the Councilor for Education stressed. This initiative is in addition to the support measures that were promoted by the Department of Education during the confinement last spring, which allowed the minors of the program who did not have telematic means to receive the tasks of their teachers, thanks to their service of personalized attention that was launched by the technicians of the council and that allowed us to maintain regular contact with these minors."From the Department of Education we continue to strengthen the care of the most vulnerable students, always in collaboration with teachers and families," said Irene Ruiz.
