The pharmacist José Ángel Salas Millán begins this course the Doctorate program in Advanced Techniques of Agricultural and Food Research and Development (TAIDA) of the UPCT to develop a project for the use of horticultural by-products together with the JimboFresh International company that received the support of the Ministry of Science and Innovation in the last call for grants for industrial doctorates."The objective of the thesis is the identification of bioactive compounds of interest to the pharmaceutical industry, present in fruit and vegetable by-products", explains the doctoral student, whose research work will be coordinated in the agricultural company by Dr.
Andrés Conesa and whose thesis will direct the professor of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena Encarna Aguayo."With JimboFresh International we developed a project financed by the Smart Specialization Strategy (RIS3) of the European Union where the potential of fruit and vegetable by-products was verified".
Now they have opted for this industrial doctorate with the aim of obtaining nutraceutical products that add value to their raw material, based on a circular economy model ”, explains Aguayo, head of the Food Quality and Health Unit of the IBV and member of the group of Research in Post-harvesting and Refrigeration at the UPCT.The doctoral student will enjoy, for four years, a pre-doctoral contract of 25,000 euros per year gross, 50% financed by the Ministry and the company.
José Ángel Salas learned about the research and developments of the Polytechnic of Cartagena related to the pharmaceutical industry thanks to the Network of Chairs of the UPCT.
Born in Puerto Lumbreras, José Ángel has previously trained at the universities of Murcia, Granada and Costa Rica.
