The Association of lesbian, gay, trans and bisexual activists of Cartagena and the Region "Colectivo GALACTYCO" has held a meeting with the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Ms.
Beatriz de Miguel and the Director of Equality of the same, Ms.
María José Lucas . The GALACTYCO Collective was attended by Alberto Alba and José María García, president and communication member, respectively. The objective of this meeting has been to reinforce and expand the collaborations that between the UPCT and the Cartagena entity have been working since 2014.
The renewal of the agreement between both organizations has been agreed and to carry out actions in defense of Rights LGTBI from the university.
On the part of GALACTYCO, they have offered both the rector and the Director of the Equality unit the resources of this organization to be able to work on affective sexual, family and gender diversity both with the students and with the rest of the UPCT staff. For Alberto Alba, president of GALACTYCO, that a woman is the Rector of the UPCT, becoming the first to hold this position in a Polytechnic University in our country, is a turning point that he is sure will mark a before and after in the university world.
"De Miguel, in reference to the Rector, is already a positive reference for many people, not only in the academic field but also in the social and labor sphere," says Alba. According to the president of GALACTYCO, "we have invited the UPCT to participate in the FELGTB Education Days that will be held online in February".
It is expected that both the rector and the director of the Equality unit will participate in these days. For his part, the communication member, José María García, assures that from GALACTYCO "we are going to work so that the Polytechnic University becomes a benchmark in the fight against LGTBIphobia".
And it is that from the UPCT they have committed with GALACTYCO in joining efforts so that this university is a place where there is no hint of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
