| With this purchase, which is still in negotiations with the owners, the cultural space will become a municipal theater | The Cartagena City Council is studying legal and economic formulas for the acquisition of the Nuevo Teatro Circo.

It is an objective that the Government team set in its programmatic agreement and that is already advancing with the negotiations that are being carried out with the property owners.Thus, in recent months, the City Council has made progress in these procedures with the owners and has carried out a private appraisal to which, soon, a public appraisal will be added, with the aim that negotiations are based at all times on the legislation valid."The Government team was very clear that buying the Circo Theater was a priority, to allow us to have a municipal theater," the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has advanced.It is one more example that the municipal government's commitment to culture is absolute.

"Any cultural manifestation is a source of enrichment for our neighbors, and acquiring an emblematic place in Cartagena such as the Nuevo Teatro Circo will allow us to have a special and accessible municipal space, so that the people of Cartagena can enjoy art and culture", the mayor stressed.In addition, the purchase of the theater would allow the City Council to save a significant sum of money annually by passing the property to municipal ownership, since it would thus avoid having to pay for its use in different cultural events of the municipal programming that take place in the Nuevo Circus Theater.The negotiations, which are still open, seek the best legal and economic formula for the acquisition of this property located in the historic center of Cartagena and which was built in 1970.The mayor has revealed that it has been working for months on this objective in order to be able to announce the purchase of the property during the act of celebration of the 50th anniversary of the theater, but that the current situation of the pandemic caused by Covid-19 has forced to delay this event.

"We would have liked to be able to share this news with Cartagena in an act as special as the 50th anniversary of the Nuevo Teatro Circo, but at this time we must act with caution and postpone celebrations of this type to protect our health and that of all", has underlined Ana Belén Castejón.
