| On November 5, the first meeting of the jury will take place, which must select the winning proposal to generate a new cultural space for the port city | A total of 30 projects have participated in the ideas competition to rehabilitate and adapt the Central Cinema and the annex building in Cartagena, convened by the Ministry of Education and Culture, whose execution has a budget of 2,825,000 euros. This was announced today by the counselor, Esperanza Moreno, along with the deputy mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, who stressed that the first meeting of the jury of the contest will take place on November 5 in charge of opening the envelopes and the study of these projects.
The jury, chaired by the general director of Cultural Assets, Rafael Gómez, is made up of two representatives from the Ministry of Education and Culture; two architects appointed by the Cartagena City Council and the Official College of Architects, and two architects of recognized prestige, Andrés Cánovas Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Sancho Osinaga. Esperanza Moreno highlighted the great interest that the call has aroused, which has been confirmed by the presentation of some thirty projects, and showed her satisfaction because "this wide audience will allow choosing a quality proposal, as corresponds to a property as emblematic as the Cine Central, which forms an essential part of the memory, not only patrimonial, but also sentimental, of Cartagena ". The winning project, which will establish the uses and conditioning of this emblematic space, will aim to generate a new cultural space for the port city, ensuring that its adaptation to new uses is always compatible with its spatial characteristics and degree of protection.
.
The action affects two buildings: the Gran Cine Central and a chamfered apartment building with two facades and four floors plus an attic. The jury must select the preliminary project that will serve as the basis for the drafting of the basic and execution project that allows the rehabilitation and conditioning of both architectural spaces.
The winning proposal will receive a prize of 15,000 euros, the second prize is endowed with 10,000 euros, and the third prize amounts to 5,000 euros.
