The City Council signs an agreement to launch the first urban garden of public-private initiative (24/10/2020)

| The Governing Board has given the green light to collaboration with the Baladre cultural association for the management of the 3,380 square meter plot located in the Mediterranean Urbanization | The local Government Board has approved the signing of a collaboration agreement between the City Council and the Baladre cultural association, by which authorization is granted to the latter to occupy and manage a 3,380 square meter plot of municipal property, located between the Urbanization Mediterráneo and the neighborhood of San Antón, as an urban garden.This is the first urban garden of public-private initiative that is launched in the municipality of Cartagena and with which the City Council wants to start, as stated in the programmatic agreement, a network of urban gardens, which allows Cartagena to start healthy leisure activities on municipal land.As the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has pointed out, "we are delighted with this initiative that was born as a leisure activity for the different groups in the neighborhood and which will also serve to improve coexistence and integration among neighbors".The signed agreement includes a duration of two years for the transfer of use, which can be extended for another two years and is already working on a project to fence the plot, financed by the Department of Parks and Gardens, with the idea of ??guaranteeing the maintenance and safety of both the plantations and the material with which they work.The neighborhood association, the neighborhood coordinator, the AMPAS of both the school and the institute, the Bolillo Lacemakers, as well as the Murcia Acoge and CEPAIM organizations work in the urban garden.Since the beginning of this year, the different groups have developed different workshops on this same plot, through the Cartagena Piensa program.

In fact, this summer's tomato, eggplant and pepper crops have already been harvested and broccoli, cabbage, peas and broad beans are being prepared for this winter.“If any group from another neighborhood or county council is interested in starting similar initiatives in their area, we encourage them to contact the City Council to identify the most suitable municipal plots for this use and to continue expanding the network of urban gardens in Cartagena ”, Has concluded the mayor.
