| The mayor has indicated that if the Cartagena headquarters were closed, the Region of Murcia would be clearly discriminated against with respect to the rest of the country | The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has demanded the rector of the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), Mari Luz Morán, that the permanent headquarters that this institution has in Cartagena be maintained since it is a regional and national reference.“From the Cartagena City Council we consider it essential that the UIMP maintain its headquarters in our municipality and, therefore, in the Region, something that we are not willing to renounce and that I understand that the central government, as the main person in charge of this institution, he will share with us ”, explained Castejón in the letter he sent to the rector of the UIMP.The mayor has indicated that if the Cartagena headquarters were closed, the Region of Murcia would be clearly discriminated against with the rest of the country, since the UIMP is based in most of the Autonomous Communities, "something that I understand that a progressive government like the ours cannot consent ”.To prevent the closure from taking place, the mayor has made herself available to the rector “to know first-hand what their needs and shortcomings are and to help them in whatever matters are necessary.

We are going to offer them all the facilities because our will is that the permanent headquarters in Cartagena remain open, offering our neighbors and those of the entire Region of Murcia the possibility of accessing the training they offer ”.This issue has been debated in the Governing Council of the UIMP, which includes the councilors for Infrastructure, María Casajús, and for Education, Irene Ruiz.

The latter has defended the position of the Cartagena City Council, reading the letter that the mayor has sent to the rector and showing her clear opposition to the closure of the permanent headquarters of Cartagena.
