| Enrique Pérez: "Two months after the end of the year they have not been able to tender the pothole project" | Two months after the end of the year, the local government has not yet been able to tender the patching and resurfacing project that should be executed by December 31, 2020, something that is affecting the safety of these roads. MC Cartagena, collecting the concern of the residents about the abandonment they suffer from the municipal government, will present an initiative to the next plenary session to inquire about the status of this project valued at almost 500 thousand euros. The lack of a comprehensive plan for the maintenance and conservation of rural roads in the municipality leaves rural roads impassable, with the consequent damage to residents and users of the hundred nuclei scattered in the west, as well as to the accesses to the rest of the county councils of the north and east of the municipality. The councilor of MC Cartagena, Enrique Pérez, has called attention to the fact that only "daily more than 4000 residents suffer from the deficiencies of these roads, resulting in damage to those basic services of their day to day", explained Pérez, who has reviewed the precariousness in which there are more than a hundred kilometers of roads in the neighborhood councils of Perín, Molinos Marfagones and Isla Plana - La Azohía. He has also criticized that the lack of management by the local government with the different councils leaves the municipality "in a state of abandonment", explaining that "60% of the roads in the municipality, which are equivalent to about 500 kilometers, need some kind of immediate action , either with patching, resurfacing, profiling of ditches, etc.

The situation has reached such a point that in some cases the neighbors have had to act by covering potholes with debris.

To all this situation must be added the problems generated by indefinite the ownership of the roads ". This municipal neglect was only alleviated under the Mayor of José López when 20 of these roads were incorporated into the Rural Development Plan belonging to the FEDER funds, which allowed allocating more than 500 thousand euros for the repair and conservation of almost 10 kilometers of the western zone, extended to another 6 kilometers of new roads with remnants of the plan. For all these reasons, Enrique Pérez has concluded by announcing that "we will transfer to the Plenary the concern of the neighbors, abandoned by the local government that does not consider it urgent to act to improve the rural road network of the municipality of Cartagena, that is, guarantee the safety of all the citizens".
