| The amount of the works, which include both the exterior and the interior of the property, has been budgeted at 264,987 euros and will have an execution period of 10 months | The basic and execution project for the rehabilitation of the Birthplace of Isaac Peral y Caballero, located in Callejón de Zorrilla number 3, is already in the bidding phase.
The amount of the works has been budgeted at 264,987 euros and will have an execution period of 10 months. The mayor and head of the Archaeological Heritage area, Ana Belén Castejón, explained that “with these works we want Cartagena and visitors to delve into the figure of the brilliant Cartagena inventor, knowing not only the place where he was born but also how he was his life, thanks to the collection of objects donated by Diego Quevedo that will be installed in the different exhibitors ”.The works contemplate the rehabilitation of both the exterior of the property and the interior and include a reinforcement in the security of the structure, the entrances and the interior, the protection of the building against noise, installations with energy efficiency criteria and an environmental conditioning system. In this way, distorting elements of the façade will be eliminated, such as a parabolic antenna, some embedded iron, the downpipe or the wiring that is subject to the height of the first floor and that must be buried. It should be remembered that it is a 4-storey building with about 200 meters built, of which the City Council wants to maintain the facade, the interiors, the original floors, the hydraulic tile of the staircase, which must be maintained and restored as well as the original pavement and wooden structure, with the aim that it can be seen as a typical house of Cartagena from the end of the IXX century. As the mayor recalled, this project is framed in the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Plan of the Old Town and will serve to “continue expanding the tourist offer of Cartagena since, in a few meters away, the city will have two new museums, the Isaac Peral House-Museum and the one in the Roman Forum Quarter, the execution of which is practically completed ”.
