Cartagena doubles its grade as an intercultural city and advances in the new phase of EPI (14/10/2020)

| Social Service and ADLE organize meetings to review objectives in the European Integration Pact | Technicians from the administration and social and political organizations will participate as of next week in the review of Cartagena's actions within the European Pact for Integration project, after the city has doubled its score according to the City Index since 2017 Intercultural that measures the success of its strategies, and where the City Council participates in a coordinated manner between the Agency for Local Development and Employment (ADLE) and the Department of Social Services in collaboration with other municipal areas.The meetings will serve to study the municipal intervention areas in which the technicians are already working with the aim of advancing especially in the aspects in which Cartagena must introduce improvements, such as the intercultural use of public spaces and services, according to the vice mayor and councilor for the Social Welfare Area, Noelia Arroyo.To this end, on Friday October 23, the virtual Open Day meeting "Towards an urban integration strategy" will take place, to make known to the social agents working in the world of integration and to interested citizens in general.

In this regard, the results obtained by the city of Cartagena in the Intercultural City Index, as well as involving them in the design of the strategies that will be implemented in the next phase of the European Pact for Integration (EPI) project.

For this reason, all the advances that are being achieved are a success, but it is also an obligation of all to develop the best strategies to achieve the highest degree of social cohesion and coexistence among all neighbors, regardless of their culture or origin ”, Arroyo has highlighted that he has insisted on the "importance of involving social agents in the design of this strategy and establishing alliances so that its implementation is as effective as possible".During the first months of 2020, the City Council has reviewed its governance, policies, discourse and practices through the Intercultural City Index and whose results have shown that Cartagena doubles its score as an intercultural city compared to 2017, based on 12 indicators and 5 sub-indicators: commitment, education, neighborhood policy, public services, labor market, culture and social life, public space, mediation, languages, communication, international outlook, intercultural competence, reception, leadership, anti-discrimination, participation and interaction.Arroyo recalled that “the Intercultural City Index allows an analysis of the situation of integration policies, but also allows us to compare this evolution with the other European cities with which we work and, above all, to share the best of them practices".The project, financed by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund of the European Union with one and a half million euros, which will run until June 2022, in several phases, will allow defining in each of the participating cities, including Cartagena, an urban integration strategy.OPEN DAY, TOWARDS A STRATEGY OF URBAN INTEGRATIONThe Open Day "Towards an integrated strategy" will be held on Friday, October 23 at 9.30 a.m., virtually, where the results and lines of action that will be included in the design of the Intercultural Strategy will be analyzed, with the objective of improving Diversity Management in the municipality of Cartagena, and technicians from the administration and social organizations will participate in it.At the meeting, the ADLE will present the European Pact for Integration (EPI) and the Department of Social Services will explain the participatory design of the Urban Integration Strategy.

The objective is to make known to the different social agents as well as to the general public interested in the matter the results obtained by the city of Cartagena in the Intercultural City IndexThis will be followed by a round table, "Integration in times of Pandemic", made up of municipal technicians and representatives of the entities that work on the inclusion of immigrants, where a municipal, personal, social and labor vision of the municipality of Cartagena will be given.

.In addition, in the coming months three working groups will be set up, made up of technicians, social organizations working on social integration and political groups, to mark future lines of action within the design of the Intercultural Strategy.
