The city is one of the international venues that faces the challenge of ensuring that future generations will have access to a resource as fundamental as the oceans. The meeting is framed in the 'Blue Growth' strategy promoted by the European Union, for a sustainable exploitation of the seas and for the care and protection of the oceans within the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 agenda. The director general of the European Union, Juan José Martínez Lozano, indicated that "in this event the future of the oceans will be analyzed through the search for technological solutions and tools such as the early detection of invasive species or the enhancement of historical heritage submerged". 'Ocean Hackathon 2020' aims to bet on the scientific and technological talent of the Region of Murcia and update progress in the area of ??sustainable development and the protection of the oceans. For the first time, Cartagena becomes a benchmark for oceanographic innovation for 48 hours along with the other participating cities.
