"Unfortunately, the disease still has no solution, but the association makes it easier for people to live differently and slow down, and it also offers support to the family.
In addition, "there is an agreement now with social security to refer new cases and try to encourage the detection of the disease as soon as possible, in addition to ensuring that the quality of life is the best possible", Martínez pointed out.AFAL Cartagena annually serves about 200 users, and their respective families if necessary.MENTAL HEALTH APICES CARTAGENAÁPICES works with users with mental health problems, "we have a day center in which we carry out occupational activities, cognitive stimulation, sports activities, and the promotion of leisure and personal initiative.
We also have a residential resource, a sheltered home, of eight people who live with us and we provide care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, "said Pepa Hernández, director of Ápices Salud Mental. There is also work on family support in the face of difficulties that may arise in the management of mental health problems and supporting schools to work with children, in addition to a hospital mediation service in which users are accompanied who, After being admitted to the psychiatry ward, they do not have family resources to enter the mental health network.Currently, there are 62 day center places, 10 private places and 8 in housing, a total of 80 people who are cared for directly in APICES.
"Mental health diseases are becoming more and more visible, and in addition, society is more aware of the type of rehabilitation and work that must be done with these people," Hernández stated. The director of the center wanted to highlight several issues on the occasion of World Mental Health Day: "In the public health system in Spain there are four times fewer psychologists than in the rest of the countries of the European community.
Mental health problems have more than an 80% unemployment rate.
In education, there is no inclusive system that meets the needs of each user and socially the rejection that the unknown often generates is evident.
