| The formation believes that the unblocking of El Gorguel would allow freeing the docks of San Pedro and Santa Lucía for the docking of cruise ships | The parliamentary group of Citizens has highlighted today the need to "improve the position of Cartagena as a gateway for tourism to the Region." The training coincided with the position of the president of the Tourism Board, María del Mar Martínez, that "it is necessary to strengthen Cartagena's capacity as a home port for cruise ships," for which the liberation of the docks of San Pedro and Santa Lucía, "something that the El Gorguel project contemplates and would result in job creation and empowerment of the sector." This was explained by the liberal deputy Valle Miguélez after Martínez appeared before the Reactivation Commission of the Regional Assembly today.
In his speech,Miguélez has highlighted the "specific weight" of tourism in regional GDP -11% - and in its position as "engine of recovery from the current socio-economic crisis derived from the pandemic."Ciudadanos has a "firm commitment" to the sector, reflected in the measures it has put on the table to reactivate and improve it.
Miguélez has highlighted and agreed with the representative of the sector on the "need to continue with the diversification of the offer" and its seasonal adjustment as keys: "Our Region has the potential to leave the offer of sun and beach, and we are committed to new niches, such as those of rural, ecological, gastronomic, adventure, cultural and congress tourism ”.Regarding the measures implemented by Citizens to alleviate the crisis, the parliamentary spokesman, Juan José Molina, has highlighted the postponement without interest of payments to social security, settlement and payment of VAT to the cancellation of tourist taxes local and regional, in addition to the postponement of 50% of the airport charges this year.
The liberal parliamentarian has also highlighted the maintenance of the ERTEs of the sector, the exemption of Social Security quotas for new hires and their reduction to workers or the reinforcement and expansion of guarantee lines, as well as the reduction of the VAT of the hospitality at 4%.In the scope of action of the regional coalition government, the parliamentary spokesman has valued the aid of 19 million euros to the tourism sector, to which are added the 3.5 specific for its self-employed.
In addition, the general director of Competitiveness and Tourist Quality for Citizens, Esther Tenza, has worked hard throughout this year with the aim of improving the sector, adapting the guides with protocols and action measures so that their use was closer and more accessible and increasing the Integral System of Tourist Quality in Destination to 18 destinations in 24 municipalities, as well as investments in infrastructures integrated in the Sustainability Plan of Sierra Espuña, endowed with 2.75 million euros.
