| This initiative is aimed at schools in the municipality that aims to serve as an educational tool after school hours and stimulate participation to set up a Municipal League of Chess | The Department of Sports of the City of Cartagena collaborates with the Lapuerta Chess Sports Club in its new project, “Chessline Cartagena”, an online chess platform that under the motto “Ajedrizate” aims to serve as an educational tool after school hours and to stimulate participation of schools to set up a Municipal Chess League, coordinated with the Department of Sports and the School Sports Program of the Autonomous Community.It is "a new initiative that shows that Cartagena and its institutions are reacting to the limitations of the health crisis, with responses based on new technologies that allow us in the long run to break the limits that existed before the pandemic", This was explained by the vice mayor and head of the Sports Department, Noelia Arroyo, at the presentation of the project this Friday at the City Hall.“The novelty that Cartagena chess now adopts is the use of an online platform that will guarantee the survival of competitions for schoolchildren and above all to spread the knowledge and practice of this sport.
Furthermore, this platform allows to summon even more players than can fit in any classroom ”, stated the deputy mayor.In addition, Arroyo has highlighted the three main capacities that are developed through chess: attention, concentration and logical thinking, "a capacity that all teachers intend to develop in their students", pointed out the mayor.The course starts next Monday, October 5, and will last for 8 months, ending on Friday, May 28, 2021.
Each student will have their own user to enter the platform and the approximate cost will be € 15 per year per student enrolled.For their part, those responsible for the Lapuerta Sports Club, President Abel Ojaos and Vice President José Lará, have expressed their gratitude to the Cartagena City Council for the support provided to this initiative, while stating that they hope to reach "the maximum number of possible participants "from the Cartagena schools.METHODOLOGYThe Cartagena City Council will acquire the online chess platform "Chesslang", with which both monitors and students will have the possibility of making video calls with a shared chess board, as well as options for different types of tournaments, online training and many other activities .Group classes of between eight and ten participants will be held through the specialized platform for teaching chess classes, "Chesslang", lasting one hour a week divided by levels, educational center and age.
