| Rapid sampling will allow increasing the number of daily coronavirus detection tests and improving accessibility and safety | The University Hospital Complex of Cartagena is testing from today at the Hospital del Rosell a system that will allow multiplying the tests of 'Polymerase Chain Reaction' (PCR) that are carried out in the health area of ??Cartagena to determine if a person is infected or not by coronavirus, since they are made directly from the car. The 'Auto-Covid' promotes maximum safety and minimum exposure for healthcare personnel and patients, since they will not have to get out of their car.
Thus, if patients have their own vehicle, they may be summoned to undergo PCR at the Hospital del Rosell.
Otherwise, they will be able to go to the Covid point of the Santa Lucía Hospital, as before.
This new point is located to the left of the Rosell's main entrance, next to the old public cafeteria. This initiative prevents anyone from entering the hospital pending a sample for PCR.
To do this, it is necessary to make an appointment and for the patient to drive to the place where the sample is taken, where the healthcare staff, with the appropriate protective equipment, will obtain the sample without the need for the patient to leave their vehicle at any time. Scheduling your appointment is crucial to avoid taking up an excessive parking space.
The patient must arrive in his own private vehicle to the exact point of sampling. Thus, measures and necessary changes have been established in the circulation of vehicles, allowing a directed and signposted entrance with a differentiated entry and exit point. The vehicle stop, which allows a simultaneous parking of 4 or 5 cars, is carried out in a covered area, which allows preserving both direct sun exposure and rain. The staff will work in auxiliary and nursing teams with an external support for daily assembly and disassembly that will be available during the established hours, with a nearby unit, the old Otolaryngology office, which will allow the storage of reagents and the conservation of samples, as well as the computer support necessary to guarantee the registration systems. The hours will initially be from 08:00 to 15:00 from Monday to Sunday. The Cartagena health area performs an average of 1,000 tests daily, most of them through the Covid point of the Santa Lucía Hospital for admitted patients and those who have to undergo an intervention or have a test.
