“Spain must participate in EDA (European Defense Agency) research grants with multidisciplinary teams, where the business fabric and universities are part of the consortiums and the Armed Forces personnel participate in research projects, since they will be the end users of these technologies ”.This request was made today by the rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), in her speech delivered at the 2020-2021 Course Opening Act of the Defense University Center (CUD).For the head of the UPCT “it is time to redouble our efforts; research and technology are a fundamental contribution to the preparation of future capacities for needs that are unknown to us right now ”.
According to the Rector "we must continue looking for new models of collaboration that allow us to continue with the achievements and implement other activities."And one of those great challenges is scientific collaboration ”, he stated.
During the event, chaired by the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, the Rector insisted that collaboration between institutions has proven to be one of our social strengths, therefore we are on the right track and we can only join efforts ”. Beatriz Miguel has highlighted the contemporary training received by the officers of the Armed Forces in the Academies and the University Defense Centers thanks to the collaboration of the universities.
The Defense University Center, located in the General Air Academy (AGA) of San Javier and attached to the UPCT, has entered 60 direct access students.The CUD offers a degree in Industrial Organization Engineering and a master's degree in Decision Aid Techniques.44 AGA students, 8 teachers, the colonel-director, Manuel de la Chica Camuñez; the director of the CUD, Nicolás Madrid García and other military personnel responsible for the AGA.
