| The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, visits the works, which will involve a regional investment of 328,000 euros | More than 20,000 inhabitants of the Cartagena neighborhoods of San José Obrero and La Vaguada will improve safety when traveling thanks to the construction of the new roundabout at the intersection of the RM-332 regional highway (Cartagena-Mazarrón) with Viña del Mar street , in Cartagena.
The residents of nearby urbanizations will also benefit, such as the Mayor of Cartagena. The new roundabout, which has a regional investment of 328,000 euros and an execution period of eight months, will involve the organization of traffic and a complete remodeling of the intersection, which is currently in the shape of a T.
It will prevent drivers from making reckless maneuvers and inappropriate turns to access the population centers, which increases the danger and accidents on this road, at the same time that traffic collapses. The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, visited the work today, which "will put an end to the speeding of vehicles that travel through this intersection", because it is on a straight, which produces a high accident rate. "The roundabout will become a backbone infrastructure for the city of Cartagena that will facilitate mobility and improve the safety conditions of 12,000 vehicles per day, of which 450 are trucks and heavy vehicles," said the counselor, who indicated that the work has counted on the contributions of residents, users and businessmen in the area. The new infrastructure, which will have an external diameter of 46 meters, two lanes, and an internal diameter of 30 meters, "will allow the road to be provided with characteristics and dimensions suitable for improving mobility and fluidity in vehicle traffic on it" . The roundabout will have three entry and four exit branches, one of which will be built new to connect with Viña del Mar street, and drainage ditches to guarantee the correct evacuation of surface water. Lighting will also be improved with highly energy-efficient luminaires and affected services, signaling and beacons will be replaced.
