| Jesús Giménez: "The paradox is that the mayor of mobility, Torralba, represents immobility, not ideology, because it serves PP or PSOE indistinctly, but the project, and has blocked mobility for 3 years "| From September 16 to 22, the celebration of European Mobility Week 2020 will take place, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of using public transport, cycling and traveling on foot. As a result of MC's concern regarding mobility, it should be remembered that last December the Cartagena formation presented a matter of proposals among which is that the Government assumes the full implementation of the Strategic Mobility Plan 'M17'. Among the twenty measures included in this Plan are the application of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan in La Manga; the drafting of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan in Cartagena; the establishment of intermodal areas of public transport; the regulation of access to restricted areas of the center; the 'zones 30'; the creation of 'superblocks', or the increase of semi-pedestrian zones. Likewise, the initiatives proposed by MC last December refer to the regulation, through ordinance, of personal mobility vehicles or the establishment of tax credits for electric vehicles.
Also, the entry into force of the 'Cartagena by motorcycle' program, promoted by MC. In the same way, it should be remembered that the first weekend of May of this year the closure of the historic center to traffic was determined.
Delving into this measure, the deputy spokesperson of the MC municipal group, Jesús Giménez, has indicated that from the Cartagena formation "we propose that, as of this weekend and indefinitely, the streets of the historic center be cut off to car traffic from Paseo Alfonso XIII, a measure to recover pedestrian spaces and promote distance between pedestrians ".
To this end, MC Cartagena, through Jesús Giménez, has addressed a letter to the mayor Juan Pedro Torralba that includes this initiative. "A bet on the pedestrian more than justified now that Mobility Week is celebrated in Europe, although Cartagena continues to stop; and that will surely be seen with good eyes from society and the hospitality sector," the mayor has expanded. The immobility of Torralba Giménez has drawn attention to the role of the councilor responsible for Mobility, Juan Pedro Torralba.
"The paradox is that the mayor of mobility, Torralba, represents immobility, not the ideology, because it serves the PP or PSOE indistinctly, but the project, and has blocked mobility for 3 years." The Cartagena councilor explained that "this year he has the excuse that Nieto does not give him money and that he only has the powers on paper, but his is the responsibility.
That is why he is silent and has not even convened the Mobility Table in one year". Finally, Jesús Giménez has finished assuring that "we will continue betting on the quality of life and a sustainable municipality; the one that we Cartagena deserve and they deny us for an armchair".
