| The first two will be set up in Los Urrutias and Estrella de Mar | Next Monday, August 24, the installation work of the first of the five pontoons will begin in Los Urrutias, which will facilitate bathing on the Cartagena beaches of the Mar Menor most affected by the presence of mud. These structures will improve the conditions of access to the sea for people with reduced mobility and will add attractiveness to the beaches, prolonging the bathing season, as explained by the deputy mayor and head of the municipal commission of the Mar Menor, Noelia Arroyo."The delays imposed by the state of alarm and the authorization of Coasts have conditioned the dates, but each day that these footbridges are installed will be a day with better quality of bathing on these beaches and, in addition, they will be an attraction that can help extend the bathing season, "said the vice mayor, while recalling that the pontoons are removable structures that will be in" locations in Los Urrutias, Punta Brava and Estrella de Mar until the Community builds the planned spas there and, later, we will move them to other parts of the Mar Menor so that they continue to provide better accessibility ”.The next jetty will be installed in Estrella de Mar, following an order that has been agreed with the neighborhood associations in the area.
Then the other two planned in Los Urrutias and the one in Punta Brava, currently in production, will be mounted. The contracting process was launched under the emergency procedure, once the authorization was received from Costas, which has allowed the administrative processing to be completed in two months and the work awarded to the company Tecopsa, which has already built the first structures to start their installation on the beaches. The structures will be between 62 and 110 meters long, and always 2 meters wide, in addition to a bathing platform with a side ramp for access for people with reduced mobility.
They will be made of wood with aluminum reinforcements to prevent corrosion and their surface must be non-slip based on high-density tropical wood planks, according to the specifications. The entire structure will remain on the water by a flotation system using polyethylene structures.
The flotation system has been oversized to prevent the weight caused by people using it from causing any type of damage to the seabed.
