| During the last year there has been an increase in the municipality of 200 citizens from the United Kingdom, 9 of French origin and 27 German | Neither the confinement, nor the restrictions imposed by the Government when traveling to their country of origin, have slowed the increase of citizens from the United Kingdom who have decided to settle in the municipality of Cartagena.
As indicated by the councilor responsible for Statistics and Population, Alejandra Gutiérrez, "throughout this last year 2020, the number of British registered in the municipality has increased by 200 people."Similarly, although to a lesser extent, there has also been an increase among citizens of French and German origin.
Specifically, this year the residents from France have gone from 256 in 2019 to 265 and citizens from Germany have increased from 328 to 355.“Curiously, these are people from three of the countries that are putting the most restrictions on their citizens to come to Spain on vacation, but what is very clear is that Cartagena, with its unique climate and environments, is still a very attractive to our European neighbors ”, explained the mayor.These data contrast with those obtained in the computation from 2009 to 2019, which indicated a decrease of 26.54% of the foreign population.
With regard to the citizens of the United Kingdom, since the beginning of the Brexit process by the British Government in 2016, a progressive decline in its population began in Cartagena until it reached its lowest peak last year with 1,976 people.
