| The citizen group MoviliCT for your health has already prepared the program of activities that it will carry out during the European Mobility Week 2020 in Cartagena | This year the motto chosen by the European Union for the week is "FOR MOBILITY WITHOUT EMISSIONS", for which they propose to all citizens that on short or medium journeys, they travel on foot, by bike, skates ...
or make use of public transport. At MoviliCT for your health, we are aware that in order to achieve mobility without emissions, we must provide citizens with safe itineraries and routes, through which they can move on foot or by bike, without having the pressure of motor vehicles.
"We are sure that many more people from Cartagena would use bicycles as a means of transport, if there was an adequate and complete network of bike lanes.
We spoke with many people who would be willing to go to Navantia or the Mediterranean Space using this clean vehicle, but who do not dare for fear of being run over, "they comment from the group. Another problem faced by bicycle users is the lack of safe parking spaces, where they can leave their bikes while they are doing their workday.
But it is not only the lack of safe bike lanes or bike racks that would improve Cartagena's mobility, reduce emissions and improve air quality and therefore everyone's health.
"It is necessary to expand the pedestrian areas in the historic center (the city council promised to do so more than two years ago), reduce the speed to 30 on the roads of our city, improve public transport, create deterrent parking in the connected outskirts by bus, create cycle paths that facilitate the movement of citizens to places such as the Christmas Lighthouse, the Hospital de Santa Lucía ...
"highlight the members of MoviliCT. In order to focus on many of the needs and shortcomings of sustainable mobility in our city, MoviliCT proposes the realization of three different routes to be carried out during SEM 2020, on the first three Saturdays in September (5, 12 and 19) .
Each route will have a different itinerary, always starting from the center of Cartagena.
Along the route, all participants will make stops to signal and mark the different black spots on the route, not only for cyclists, but also for people who walk and those with reduced mobility. "It is a pity that the City Council of Cartagena is not truly involved in this issue and we have to be the citizen groups, those who use our time and effort to claim all actions, which due to neglect, lack of interest or ignorance do not take carried out from the Cartagena consistory "regret the members of the group. At the end of the week, on the 22nd there will be a talk-colloquium.
The speaker and the venue will be reported shortly.
