The operation was opened a few months ago, when Pharmacy inspectors of the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (CARM), alerted the Civil Guard of some events related to the illicit acquisition of medicines. While carrying out a routine inspection service in pharmacies, CARM officials, in this case in the municipality of Cartagena, detected that a large quantity of a type of anesthetic had been supplied in one of the inspected establishments. Specifically, the dispensing of more than a hundred units of an injectable general anesthetic of 10 ml was verified.

Members of the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Benemérita opened the corresponding investigation in order to verify the facts and, where appropriate, clarify them. The first steps of the operation were carried out with inspections throughout the region, more than twenty pharmacies, to check the scope of distribution of this type of medicine, noting that in none, except the one that gave rise to the opening After the investigation, the drug had been dispensed and in some it was not in their databases. Parallel to the inspections, the Civil Guard carried out another series of investigations that made it possible to identify the person who had acquired the drugs. When a prescription was required by a physician, the suspect posed as a veterinarian to purchase the products, verifying, thanks to the collaboration of the College of Veterinarians of the Region of Murcia, that this employment situation was false. Once all the necessary evidence has been obtained, the Civil Guard has located and detained a Cartagena neighbor as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of crimes of professional intrusion and against public health, which, together with the proceedings instructed, has been made available to the competent judicial authority
