The first collaborative project of the UPCT through the European Technological University receives almost € 1M from the European Commission (10/08/2020)

| A consortium formed by six countries will promote actions to reduce the high unemployment rate of university graduates in Egypt, Jordan and Algeria | Almost one million euros from the European Commission will go to the first collaborative project developed by the UPCT within the framework of the new European Technological University, the European University of Technology (EUt +).

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena will develop a project aimed at reducing the high unemployment rate of university graduates in Egypt, Jordan and Algeria.

This initiative will be developed over the next three years through a consortium made up of ten institutions and foundations from six countries. The goal of the STREAM (University Student Capacity Building: Towards Readiness for Sustainable Development-Oriented Regional Job Market) project is to develop a generation of "globally exposed" globally-exposed graduates, with social and cognitive skills combined with academic competencies, more prepared for the labor market and capable of being effectively integrated into a diverse and multicultural ecosystem, explains UPCT researcher Ruth Herrero, from the Department of Thermal and Fluid Engineering. In the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa), the high unemployment rate among university graduates is a direct result of the mismatch between the training received and the expectations of the labor market, according to the project coordinator, Karlis Valtinš, from the .

Rigas Tehniska Universitate. At this time, universities have to face the challenge derived from the rapid evolution of market needs as a result of the incursion of Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, robotics or machine learning, that is, machine learning. The project, promoted by a consortium made up of universities from Latvia, Germany, Spain, Egypt, Jordan and Algeria, will carry out 35 extracurricular activities and missions adapted to short- and long-term competencies in higher education centers and partner universities. It will also launch 35 courses in Engineering and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) restructured to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in a format based on the acquisition of competencies, which point to the image full of the future "global citizen".This training program will be developed by at least 60 students in each of the seven higher education institutions in Egypt, Jordan and Algeria that are part of this European project. In addition, the project (reference 618537-EPP-1-2020-1-LV-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP) will launch the participation portal where employers and students will share their profiles and establish internships and summer jobs.

A complementary competency development program, essential in the proposed integrative approach, will also be developed.
