The City Council begins the procedures to restore the Council Chapel (03/08/2020)

The City Council has already received all the permits from the Autonomous Community and the Bishopric to take the next step towards the rehabilitation of this chapel of the Old Cathedral of Cartagena.The project includes the restoration of the chapel and the sculptures that house it, such as the Virgen del Rosell and the four saints of the city: San Isidoro, San Leandro, Santa Florentina and San Fulgencio.The restoration of the Council Chapel, also known as the Chapel of the Four Saints, is included in the Participatory Budgeting Project and will have a budget of 100,000 euros.Thus, after receiving the necessary permits to undertake the works by the Autonomous Community and the approval of the Bishop of the Diocese, José Manuel Lorca Planes, the City of Cartagena, through the Department of Archaeological Heritage, led by the Mayor Ana Belén Castejón, will be able to undertake the restoration of the chapel, which is municipally owned, as well as the images of the Virgen del Rosell, the four saints of the city, the ivory Christ of Don Juan de Austria (also known as Christ of Lepanto) and the Predela, a Renaissance painted panel from the 16th century."At last we have received the permission of the Bishopric, which allows us to initiate the tender procedures for the work to value one of the treasures of Cartagena," said Ana Belén Castejón.“With this new step, we continue to advance in the recovery of our heritage, in an enclave as special as the cathedral of Cartagena.

The Chapel of the Council is municipally owned and with its rehabilitation we will be able to recover a fundamental part of our past and the close connection of Cartagena with its four patron saints, whose images we will be able to admire when the restoration is complete, "said the mayor and councilor of the area of Archaeological Heritage.
