| These are works by Enrique Gabriel Navarro and Ramón Alonso Luzzy, which were damaged by the effects of the sun and the wind | Several mosaics from the Torres Park gallery will be restored to shine again in all their splendor.
The Department of Heritage, headed by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, will start the work with four of the seven tile murals that make up the gallery that descends to the Pond Pond. The murals are the works of local artists Enrique Gabriel Navarro and Ramón Alonso Luzzy, and they make up a series of seven mosaics that recreate traditional images of the Campo de Cartagena and the history of the city, such as the founding of the Roman Carthago Nova.Specifically, the work will focus on the murals that are more deteriorated, dealing with fishing on the Cartagena coast and children's games.
In both, the restoration will consist of the replacement of broken tiles, which will be repainted so that the images can be admired as they looked when they were created. In addition, in two mosaics with no missing pieces, the painting, affected by the effects of the sun and the wind, will simply be restored. The project, which has a budget of around 20,000 euros, has been commissioned from the company Parteluz Restauraciones, and will be supervised by Enrique Gabriel Navarro's own son, also artist Enrique Carretero."The Cartagena City Council is committed to preserving its heritage, and we could not let an area as emblematic as the Castillo de los Patos lose a single tile in its mosaic gallery," stressed the mayor and councilor of the Heritage Area Archaeological, Ana Belén Castejón."The works have an execution period of three months and will begin shortly, so if the deadlines continue as planned, in the autumn the works of two of our most renowned artists will look renewed, and will contribute to improving the tourist image of Cartagena and remember our history ”, he concluded.
