| It is a Sustainable Summer School that this year tries to offer a concrete response to the educational disadvantages caused by COVID-19 | The non-profit Association, Maestros Mundi, celebrates its traditional Summer School, with the collaboration of the Cartagena City Council and the Rotary Club Cartagena.
This year around thirty children participate during the month of July in this Sustainable Summer School aimed at children between 6 and 12 years old from Social Services.The councilor of the Social Services Area, Mercedes García, visited this morning the students of the School, together with the President of the Mundi Teachers, María Victoria Vara, and the President of the Cartagena Rotary Club María José Carrillo.The councilor for Social Services has highlighted the "courage" of Maestros Mundi in celebrating these Summer Schools "in these very dubious times that we are living." In addition, Mereces García affirmed that the center meets all the appropriate conditions perfectly adapted to the security measures against the Covid-19.This project is aimed at children from first to sixth grade, aged between 6-12 years, children with social and educational disadvantages from Social Services.The objective of this initiative is to offer a concrete response to the educational disadvantages caused by COVID-19, and on the other hand to raise awareness of the achievement of the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), mainly through non-formal education and from the earliest ages.The president of Maestros Mundí explained during her visit to the center that "in addition to the educational reinforcement activities, she complements herself by working on the emotional sphere, social skills and the ecological environment.
She is also provided with breakfast and lunch." For her part, the President of the Rotary Club Cartagena, María José Carrillo, indicated that with the contribution they make "we try to continue with the work we have been doing helping our closest environment, given the situation in which we find ourselves, we understand that Cartagena is needs to".SUMMER SCHOOL CONTENTSThe content of the course covers four blocks, the first one for educational reinforcement 'Learning by Playing', the second focused on sustainable development, 'Take care of your planet', the third block of emotional education, 'Caring for everyone' and finally a block aimed at healthy life, `Take care of your health´.Two courses are held, one in the month of July and the other in August from 9:00 to 13:00 from Monday to Friday in the spaces of the Casa Cuna.
Subsequently, in September they carry out a small diagnostic study based on the results obtained, especially on how the SDGs affect the daily practice of each family.
