Urban planning starts cleaning the municipal plots of Morería Baja and Cantarerías (07/07/2020)

| This action is part of the Comprehensive Recovery Plan for the Old Town that the Cartagena City Council launched earlier this year | The Town Planning Department, which is headed by Mayor Ana Belén Castejón, has started work to clean the municipally owned lots on Morería Baja and Cantarerías streets.

The works were awarded on June 26 and involves blocks 3, 4, 5, 6 and part of eight.

As explained by the first mayor, these actions are framed in the Comprehensive Recovery Plan for the Old Town, which the Cartagena City Council launched earlier this year. This is a previous step for a larger action, since the intention of the local government is to be able to put them out to tender as soon as possible.

"What we intend is to comply with this ambitious Recovery Plan for the Historic Quarter of Cartagena, cleaning all the municipally owned plots and then, in a second phase, tendering all these plots", explained Castejón.Since this plan was designed, the City Council has carried out different actions aimed at the economic reactivation of the area, among which the processing of 14 licenses to rehabilitate dilapidated buildings and build tourist apartments and commercial premises, the transformation of the house birth of Isaac Peral in a museum, or the adaptation of Subida de San Diego and Saura streets. “Within this comprehensive plan we have implemented numerous actions.

Such as the works that are going to be put out to tender for the Subida de San Diego and Saura streets very soon, the tender for the second phase of the Roman Amphitheater or the imminent opening of the Museo del Barrio del Foro, which will also contribute to adapting this area and give the boost to the local economy.

Recently we announced the recovery projects for the birthplace of Isaac Peral and the Gates of San José or the enhancement of the Byzantine Wall, "recalled the mayor. At the end of last year, a new subsidy was approved in the fiscal ordinances to reduce the Construction and Installations Tax by 30% in all the rehabilitation works that will be carried out, among other places, in the most deteriorated area of ??the old town.

, something that has already proven its effectiveness with the increase in licenses requested.
