| The renewal of the Chair agreement will allow young people to train in the development of optimization projects in chemical plants | The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) and the SABIC Spain Foundation intensify their collaboration.
The Foundation will contribute thirteen thousand euros in scholarships annually, according to the renewal agreement of the SABIC-UPCT Foundation Chair signed today by the rector, Alejandro Díaz and the director of the La Aljorra industrial complex, Juan Alemany.
The agreement also provides for up to 10,000 additional annual euros for training actions aimed at the practical application of knowledge and the promotion of innovation in fields of interest to SABIC.
The SABIC-UPCT Foundation Chair, founded in 2014, finances scholarships aimed at training UPCT students for the development of studies, analyzes and R&D projects for the implementation of possible improvements to plants and / or processes of production of the Cartagena industrial complex, in order to improve aspects such as sustainability, reliability and operating costs.In addition to improving their technical skills, students try to work in teams, learn autonomously, use information resources with solvency and apply ethical and sustainability criteria in decision-making.
Since its inception, SABIC has financed 18 scholarships, three R&D contracts (Research + Development) and has awarded six awards for the best Final Degree Projects (TFG) of each course in fields related to the subject of the Chair , Industrial Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
SABIC and the UPCT have collaborated in technological, educational and informative projects in science and technology for years.The company participates, now through its Foundation, in various scientific dissemination programs of the Polytechnic, including the Engineering Campus, an event that brings together around 5,000 schoolchildren from the Region of Murcia.The Chair, led by the UPCT Professor of Chemical Engineering, Luis Javier Lozano Blanco, is a platform for employment.
Several engineers graduated from the Polytechnic of Cartagena have joined the SABIC staff since the chair was created.
Some of them have been hired after their training period as fellows.SABIC was one of the first companies to join the UPCT Chair Network.
"It perfectly combines the training activities of our students through their scholarships, the transfer of knowledge developed by our researchers and the employability opportunities for our graduates," stressed the Rector during the event.
Juan Alemany has declared: "The support and promotion of education especially in its STEM aspects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics for its acronym in English) is a priority for us and the spearhead of our actions of Social Responsibility" .The director of the industrial complex has remarked: “Our collaboration through the SABIC-UPCT Foundation Chair is, without a doubt, one of the most relevant initiatives of the SABIC Spain Foundation and which has helped train and prepare professionals in areas that our country You need so much today and in the future.
” The coordinator of the Chair, Luis Javier Lozano, the Vice-rector for Innovation and Business, Alejandro Pérez Pastor and the director of the Technical Department of SABIC, Héctor Puyosa, were also present at the act of renewal of the agreement, held at the Rectorate.
