| The IMAS will contribute more than 1.8 million euros until 2022 for the care of the elderly and people with disabilities | More than a hundred elderly and disabled people from Cartagena will receive home assistance thanks to the agreement for the service to help dependent people that will be signed by the City Council and the Autonomous Community. The agreement provides for a total amount of 2,268,000 euros between next September and November 2022, of which the Ministry of Social Policy will pay through IMAS a total of 1,837,000 euros, while the rest will be contributed by the users, as reported by the vice mayor and head of the Social Care area, Noelia Arroyo. The City Council will be in charge of managing the service for dependents through a specialized company that must provide more than 160,000 hours of domestic assistance and personal care at home during that period of time. The Deputy Mayor recalled that "this agreement for the care of dependency is an objective for which the organizations of the dependency and the city council itself have been working for years, and it has been unblocked just at this time when the pandemic has made it more necessary that we will never be able to attend to people with special needs in their own homes ”.The City Council currently maintains, through the Department of Social Services, four home service programs that are provided to the elderly and dependents and number around 1,800 users.
The provision of home help is received by 525 users, 538 people have a telecare service and 185 elderly and dependents receive food at home. The agreement offered by the Autonomous Community has been approved at the last government meeting and will be signed shortly so that the service can be provided this year.
