| The UPCT School of Industrial Engineering gathers 50 students and 10 institutes in its first Olympiad | Could you determine the Taylor polynomial of a function of the second degree? And to calculate the total work when moving a body at constant speed with an applied force? And could you identify the electronic configurations that correspond to an atom in the ground state? These are some examples of the type of questions that fifty hundred high school students who have competed this afternoon in the First Industrial Engineering Olympiad in the Region of Murcia have had to solve.
The 50-minute test is the first of these characteristics organized by a Spanish university.
The objective of this initiative is to promote STEM vocations (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and, especially, academic degrees in the field of Industrial Engineering. In the Olympiad, held virtually due to the state of alarm, 50 1st and 2nd Baccalaureate students from all over the Region have participated.
The ten educational centers that students have presented are: IES Aljada (Murcia), IES Domingo Valdivieso (Mazarrón), Colegio Santa Joaquina de Vedruna (Cartagena), Colegio Maristas Cartagena (Cartagena), IES Los Molinos (Cartagena), Colegio Monteagudo-Nelva (Murcia), IES Arzobispo Lozano (Jumilla), IES Mediterráneo (Cartagena), IES Monte Miravete (Murcia) and Colegio San Jorge (Molina de Segura). The three winners of the Olympiad will get free registration if they choose to study any of the degrees taught at the UPCT School of Industrial Engineering, and financial aid as an additional prize.
The three educational centers whose students add the best scores will also receive a prize.
The UPCT School of Industrial Engineering teaches the degrees of Industrial Technologies, Chemical Engineering, Mechanics, Industrial and Automatic Electronics, and Electrical. In addition, the next course is expected to also teach the degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Engineering in Industrial Design and Product Development that are currently in the verification process by ANECA.This initiative is organized by the UPCT School of Industrial Engineering, and has the collaboration of the Association of Technology Teachers of the Region of Murcia (ATECMUR), Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Seneca Foundation, Official College of Engineers Industrials of the Murcia Region, Official College of Industrial Technical Engineers of the Murcia Region, Repsol Cartagena Industrial Complex and Mecánicas Bolea SA
