| In a police device with about 500 civil guards | 34 people have been arrested as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of membership of a criminal organization, drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and money laundering In the 31 searches carried out, the Benemérita has seized a large amount of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, methadone and psychotropic drugs. A large amount of cash, firearms and ammunition, utensils used for the cultivation and handling of drugs, vehicles and other effects related to the criminal network have also been seized. The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the operation 'Lurigancho', an investigation aimed at prosecuting drug trafficking in Cartagena, which has resulted in the disarticulation of a popular family clan dedicated to the production, handling and distribution of drugs.

, both retail and other criminal groups. The actions began last year, when the Investigating Court number 5 in Cartagena, coordinated with the Special Anti-drug Prosecutor's Office of the Superior Prosecutor of the Region of Murcia, ordered that the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the 5th Zone of the Civil Guard de Murcia would open an operation to investigate the alleged illicit activities related to drug trafficking that a major criminal structure based in Cartagena was committing. It is a criminal organization that, presumably, controlled numerous retail drug outlets, colloquially known as "gambling dens," located in three popular Cartagena neighborhoods known for this activity, such as Los Mateos, Santa Lucía and Virgen de la Caridad: the popular neighborhood of "Las 600". Factors in an operation of such magnitude as the location of the drug sales points and the residences of the leaders of the plot, most of them in quasi-marginal neighborhoods of the port city, its idiosyncratic neighborhood, the high security measures that they adopted and other aspects to be taken into account due to their complexity, have forced researchers to use novel and advanced research techniques. The civil guards have kept an exhaustive control of the activities of the main investigated, which has allowed them to know their customs and their way of acting, essential information to bring them to justice and so that finally the responsibilities of each of the investigated. After several months of investigation and once all the necessary indications were obtained, the Civil Guard planned the exploitation phase of the operation, which has also been influenced by the Coronavirus health crisis. A device with about 500 civil guards The developed operation has been one of the largest planned in the Civil Guard for this type of action, requiring the involvement in its execution of several highly specialized units, coming from different parts of the national territory, both immediate intervention and Special Intervention Unit (UEI) and the Reserve and Security Group (ARS), as well as other specialties such as dogs trained in the search for money, etc.

A device with about 500 civil guards. The dawn of last Tuesday, June 9, the operation phase of the operation began, in which, without personal or material incidents, 31 entries and registrations were made, 28 simultaneously in the Cartagena neighborhoods of Los Mateos, Santa Lucia and "Las 600", as well as other homes in La Unión, Mazarrón and Torre Pacheco, the latter two in luxury resorts where several of the main suspects had rented vacation homes. In the records and in other actions, so far, the Civil Guard has detained 34 people, who are allegedly responsible for the crimes of membership in a criminal organization, drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and laundering of capitals. The searches have been carried out in the personal homes of the members of the now-dismantled criminal plot and of a family member who collaborated with them, as well as in five drug outlets they ran, established in Los Mateos and "Las 600", resulting in access to these "gambling dens" of great difficulty, due to the physical security measures adopted by the traffickers, with video surveillance circuits and shielding devices at their entrances. Different types of drugs have been seized, cocaine in various modes of consumption (1,500 kg), marijuana (100 kg), marijuana buds (16 kg) heroin (0.500 kg), hash pollen (0.200 kg), methadone (1,500 kg) ) and around 45,000 units of psychotropic medications. Around 300,000 euros in cash have also been seized, among which coins of different face value abound.

Two 9mm caliber pistols have been recovered.

Parabellum and a revolver of the 38 Special caliber, all of them suitable for real fire, cartridges, as well as other simulated and compressed gas weapons.

In addition, a dozen vehicles have been seized, some of them high-end, and numerous effects related to drug trafficking. The investigation remains open, now focused on discovering whether the investigated could be laundering part of the money obtained from their lucrative and criminal actions. In the exploitation phase of the operation, the Benemérita has had the collaboration of the Cartagena Local Police. The development of the 'Lurigancho' operation has led to the breakup of a popular family clan, based in Cartagena and dedicated to drug trafficking, both retail in the port city and the distribution of narcotic substances to other criminal organizations in the Region of Murcia and of neighboring autonomous communities. The detainees, the majority of whom are Spanish nationals, between 20 and 60 years old, residing in Cartagena and the majority with a history of similar criminal acts, the drug seized, the effects seized, and the investigative proceedings have been placed at the disposal of Investigating Court number 5 de Cartagena (Murcia), which exercised the judicial direction of the operation.
