| The activities that are organized every year for the months of July and August cannot be held this summer due to the health crisis and as they cannot guarantee the safety of children and professionals | The Cartagena City Council has decided to cancel the celebration of the Summer Schools, which traditionally take place in July and August, due to the situation generated by the COVID-19 health crisis and the need to respect social distancing and avoid concentrations of schoolchildren.
Furthermore, to date, there are no action protocols for activities within educational centers that guarantee the safety of children and the professionals who have to attend to them.“It was a difficult decision, but it was necessary to guarantee the health of the little ones and avoid possible infections.
We have analyzed the current scenario, with the schools closed, and from the Ministry of Education only the opening of the Educational Centers for students of 2nd Bachillerato from June 10 to 22 has been reliably communicated to review content for the celebration of the EBAU, and with restrictive measures that oblige social distancing.
With these conditions, we consider that the celebration of summer schools is unfeasible ”, highlighted the Councilor for Education, Irene Ruiz.During the summer of 2019, Education offered 1,500 places of activities for schoolchildren among the different courses and workshops that it organized.
"This is an especially important initiative for us, but impossible to carry out at this time," said Ruiz.CLOSED UNTIL SEPTEMBERIn this same sense, the Municipal Infant Schools will remain closed until the month of September, following the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, which made public a few weeks ago that their nursery schools would not open until the next school year after the summer.Sanitary conditions do not advise opening these centers because it is practically impossible to guarantee that children under 3 years old will maintain the safety distance recommended by Health. The Department of Education had planned to offer 918 places for the 2020/2021 academic year, which represents 41 more places than last year.
"However, we do not know if we will be able to maintain this offer, since it will depend on the conditions and ratios imposed by the regional and central governments to guarantee the health of minors," said Irene Ruiz.
