MC Cartagena calls for a plan to de-escalate public transport (21/05/2020)

| Jesús Giménez: "The passivity of the Government harms trade and slows down progress in sustainable mobility" | The spokesman for the Municipal Group MC Cartagena, José López, and the councilors of the Cartagena formation; Yesterday, Jesús Giménez, María José Soler and Arantxa Pérez held a meeting with representatives of the Transportes Urbanos de Cartagena SA (TUCARSA) company committee, the company in charge of managing the city's urban buses. The workers have voiced their concern about the indefinite reduction of services that keeps about twenty employees on the Temporary Employment Regulation File (ERTE) and the lack of a specific schedule for the restitution of services. After the appointment, the deputy spokesman for MC Cartagena, Jesús Giménez, has assessed the content of the same.

In the first place, it has demanded that "a plan for de-escalation of public transport be presented, because the advances in the field of sustainable mobility that were achieved thanks to MC's commitment to the 'M17' program can be ruined in these months" .

"They do not have a municipality model and in these situations they can see the seams," he asserted. The need to structure the municipality and the damage to the economy Immediately afterwards, Giménez has stated that "the urban bus serves to structure our neighborhoods and county councils and to discourage the use of personal vehicles.

Keeping it in minimum conditions damages trade and we move away from the objectives of reducing the carbon footprint and improving quality of life". As an example of the mess in this service, the mayor of Cartagena has referred to the one known as 'Icue Bus'.

"It is unpresentable that a service like this, which aims to bring all the people of Cartagena closer to the Historic District, is maintained every half hour with eight users per trip, which means that in one morning less than a hundred people can reach the center in bus.

Skinny favor we do to trade and hospitality " To finish, Giménez recalled that "the lines in the ordinary period are tight, but there are improvements that we have been demanding for a long time and it could be time to implement.

So we do not understand the inactivity of the Government, much less that they see the opportunity to save on buses at the cost of crowding travelers or losing them.

Because that costs us economic activity and health.
