The mayor agrees to study the increase in frequencies on bus lines 8 and 9 (19/05/2020)

| Ana Belén Castejón has met with representatives of Alsa to analyze the company's requests and needs | The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, accompanied by the councilor for Infrastructure, Services and the Coastline, María Casajús, held a meeting on Tuesday with representatives of the workers of ALSA, the concessionary company of urban public transport, to whom she has transmitted the Commitment of the Government team to protect the health of people from Cartagena who use urban buses, studying various options such as the possibility of expanding the frequencies of the most demanded lines, provided that the safety of users is guaranteed and allowed by the State of Alarm dictated by the Government of Spain in the face of the COVID-19 crisis. In the meeting, in which the Councilor for Infrastructure, Services and the Coast, María Casajús, the president of the ALSA works council, María Jesús Pose, has also recognized the “excellent work” that has been carried out by the municipal government to promote the use of public transport among Cartagena, with a renewed fleet and new lines and frequencies. The representatives of the workers have raised the need to reinforce certain bus lines due to the demand for passengers that is being observed in recent days in certain points of the city, a request that both Castejón and Casajús have promised to analyze, based on to the recommendations issued by the Government of Spain.Specifically, lines 8 and 9 have experienced an increase in demand by users, so the mayor has promised to study ways to ensure that Cartagena residents who require this service can use it.In this sense, the councilor María Casajús has recalled that during the State of Alarm the Government of Spain has dictated the promotion of the use of individual transport to reduce contagion among citizens.

For this reason, despite the municipal government's usual commitment to public transport, the current situation of health crisis does not allow bus lines to maintain their frequencies. The workers' representatives have also expressed their concern for the colleagues who are still affected by the Employment Regulation File that was applied in the company since, although 12 of those affected have already joined their jobs, there are still several people subject to ERTE.The mayor has shown her solidarity with the workers who are going through this difficult situation and has promised to expand the service as possible and the Government of Spain allows it, with the aim that they can return to their jobs in conditions of sanitary security. To continue advancing in the joint adoption of measures, Castejón and Casajús have summoned the workers' representatives to a new meeting, when the advance to phase 2 of the de-escalation is confirmed.“Cartagena has been an example since the start of the State of Alarm for the responsible use of urban public transport: our neighbors have known how to adapt to the situation in an extraordinary way and respect the gauging and safety distances inside buses and at stops, and In the new phases of de-escalation towards the new normality, we will work so that they can receive the service they need, but always protecting their health ”, Ana Belén Castejón has valued. Finally, the mayor has expressed her gratitude to the ALSA workers.

"You are doing an exceptional job, with an exquisite treatment to the users, explaining the hygiene rules at all times and perfectly following the safety instructions indicated by the Government," he pointed out.All the groups with municipal representation were invited to the meeting and it has had the participation of the councilors of Unidas Podemos-Izquierda Unida-Equo, Pilar Marcos and Leli García.
