| The Youth Councilor assures that, despite being a very different edition from the previous ones, "a truly unique night awaits us" | With the slogan 'A Different Night', the City of Cartagena has decided to postpone the celebration of the XII Edition of the Night of the Museums of Cartagena to November 14, date proposed by the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
At first, this massive appointment with culture in Cartagena was scheduled for this Saturday, May 16, but it was decided to postpone it due to the health crisis caused by the coronavirus. Thus, after a telematic meeting, the coordinators of the Night of Museums and directors of Museum Spaces, already draw the lines of action for the celebration of this cultural event in what will be a different edition.
In this sense, the councilor for Youth, David Martínez, has advanced that "despite the fact that, for obvious reasons, it will be a very different Night of the Museums, we can assure the public that it will be a unique night.
It will be a challenge, but Cartagena deserves it, especially since it is the first municipality in the entire Region to join this European celebration, more than 10 years ago.
"Aware of the current situation, for this XII edition we are working on workshops, guided tours and small-format performances throughout the day, in those spaces where access and capacity control is possible, by prior registration, thus guaranteeing the sanitary measures necessary to preserve the health of both the attending public and that of the workers and artists. This event will also be joined by online activities to bring this magical night closer to as many homes as possible.
"In any case, the celebration of the Night of Museums and all this programming scheduled for November 14 will be subject to the favorable evolution of the pandemic," said the councilman. The European Night of Museums, which has always been celebrated very close to the commemoration of International Museum Day (May 18), was an initiative created by the French Department of Culture in 2005, in which thousands of museums from all over Europe open their doors every year for free to a unique opportunity for the public to discover the richness and diversity of museum spaces.
The museums, for their part, offer a program of special activities for this original evening aimed at all audiences.
