MC Cartagena claims progress in the revitalization of La Manga in the face of regional passivity (15/05/2020)

José López: "If before the coronavirus crisis, the revitalization of La Manga trade was important, now it is even more so.

The regional government manages 18 million euros of European funds to revitalize it and four years later it has produced little result" This morning, the spokesperson for the MC Cartagena municipal group, José López, has emphasized the negligence of the regional administration in relation to the revitalization policies of La Manga, an issue further aggravated by the delicate situation that we must face. López began by recalling that "since 2016, the regional government has managed 18 million euros of European funds to revitalize La Manga, a strategy that four years later has given little result and whose execution and success in decisions seems decisive." Subsequently, the mayor has reported that his training, since last year, is waiting "for the General Directorate of the Mar Menor to provide us with the degree of implementation of this strategy." Doubts about the execution This claim has been based on two reasons.

"The first, to find out what we have invested in and what we can invest in.

The second, to ensure that these funds are not lost, because as of December 31, 2018, the execution of the strategy was that of a meager 1.12 %, as of December 31, 2019, execution should be above 30% in order not to compromise the strategy.

" "In León, Valencia or Jerez, a postponement has been requested, but there is no published information on La Manga, nor is it offered for transparency, and with the background of the regional executive it is worrying." "And all this when it comes to the most important sun and beach destination in the Region," added the MC leader. Greater need if possible In relation to the global crisis situation we are experiencing, the spokesman for the Cartagenerists has stated that "if before the coronavirus crisis the revitalization of La Manga trade was important, now it is even more so". "To date, there has been absolutely no progress to strengthen and energize the commercial sector in an area doubly diminished by the current crisis and by the state of the Mar Menor," López lamented. Later, he argued that "nobody could understand that these funds are lost or not taken advantage of to help the businesses and hospitality of La Manga to overcome the crisis." To conclude, José López has announced that "that is why we will take an initiative to the next plenary session, demanding specific accounts and measures for La Manga, since the City Council is obliged to contribute initiatives to the strategy and does not do so."
