| To commemorate the International Day Against LGTBIphobia | This action aims to raise awareness about the importance of using vocabulary and the situation of vulnerability of LGTBI people "If you think it is absurd, imagine us", is the motto of the campaign that the Association of Lesbians, gays, trans and bisexual activists of Cartagena and Region "GALACTYCO Collective" has chosen to commemorate the International Day against LGTBIphobia that is celebrated next May 17.Given the situation of semi-confinement, the campaign that is going to be carried out through social networks consists of images with phrases such as "You are straight, you don't see anything" or "I have nothing against people heterosexuals "and the motto" If it seems absurd to you, imagine us ".
With this campaign we want to raise awareness of the importance of language and the situation of vulnerability that LGTBI people face with comments about their orientation or gender identity. This year marks 30 years since the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses.
Although much progress has been made in terms of equality, the president of the GALACTYCO Collective, Alberto Alba, recalls that "30 years have passed since this discontinuation of homosexuality as a mental illness, but it took fifteen years for legislation to be passed on the LGTBI community, with the Equal Marriage Law and some more to recognize the rights of trans people ".For his part, the GALACTYCO communication spokesperson, José María García, points out that "during the confinement, the vulnerability to which LGTBI people have been subjected, especially those LGTBI young people who suffer LGTBIphobia within their womb, has been revealed family"To conclude, Alba recalls the importance of using an inclusive and respectful language towards anyone with no regard for sexual orientation or gender identity. The campaign is being carried out on GALACTYCO social networks, next Sunday, May 17.
