| Oncejalía takes charge of the problem, although it considers the involvement of the rest of the administrations to stop the proliferation of pests essential | The Cartagena City Council has taken the reins of action against mosquito pests in the municipality with a reinforcement of activity by the concessionaire.
This was communicated by the deputy mayor and head of Health, Manuel Padín, after a telematic meeting held this Tuesday, May 5, with technicians from the Autonomous Community and the local Government, as well as with officials from the company in charge of controlling pests.During the meeting, the mayor recalled the measures that have been taken in recent weeks to tackle the problem.
In this sense, the service has been reinforced with an increase in treatment vehicles and the personnel assigned to mosquito control work (prioritizing larvicide control in areas flooded with biological products).
Private landowners with standing water have also been notified to adapt and treat their plots; and the owners of the Salinas de Marchamalo have also been notified to proceed with their treatment with biological products and the adaptation of the environment, since due to the state of neglect in recent years, the accumulation of fresh water in their ponds makes mosquito larvae develop with the consequent nuisance to neighboring areas.Likewise, the General Directorate of the Natural Environment has been notified to carry out biological mosquito control works in the old Rasall de Calblanque Salinas, since this focus is causing these mosquitoes to reach nearby populations such as Cala Reona, Cala Flores , Los Belones or Atamaría, among others.
Finally, the Autonomous Community has been contacted to carry out actions in areas with standing water from its competition, such as cleaning and clearing roads, channels and waterways on highways, to facilitate treatment with biological larvicides in these areas and avoid stagnation of waters. In addition to these actions, a door-to-door service is being carried out, locating mosquito development areas in private areas, advising neighbors on the steps they must follow to eliminate these outbreaks.
"We know that the confinement, and the prohibition to go to second homes, means that there are countless houses with stagnant waters in poor condition and developing larvae," said the deputy mayor, who stressed that "until the situation normalizes , we ask the residents of these houses to eliminate these sources for the common good of the neighborhood ”.The Councilor for Health has positively valued the willingness of the Autonomous Community to collaborate with the local Administration in speeding up as many procedures as necessary to act in protected areas.
In fact, the regional technician has proposed working together with the concessionary company for pest control on an action plan for clearing old roads in the Marina de El Carmolí to facilitate the performance of the fumigation teams.
However, the mayor has regretted the absence of those responsible for the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) and the Association of Naturalists of the Southeast (ANSE), who also have powers and properties in problem areas and were invited to the meeting.
The Government Delegation could not be present either, who has excused his absence showing total predisposition to collaborate both in this matter and in solving the problem of the Algameca Chica. However, the Health area will contact them again to communicate the decisions taken by the local government.
In this sense, the deputy mayor trusts that these administrations and groups will collaborate hand in hand.
"We know of the predisposition of the Government Delegation and we trust that we are all in the same line of work," explained the councilman. The head of Health has advanced that the action against mosquito pests through drones is being studied in those problem areas with stagnant waters, although he has clarified that "the procedure would not involve the spraying of fumigation products from the air, but that it would focus on the use of larvicides to ensure their settlement in these areas.
”Finally, the deputy mayor has announced that he will contact the Mar Menor coastal municipalities to try to create a common front and go hand in hand with their demands to the regional and central administrations, with the aim of providing joint solutions.
"We share the same concern and we must row in the same direction," said the councilman.
