The measure is launched immediately due to the added risks of confinement during the health crisis, according to the agreement reached between the president of the College of Pharmacists, Isabel Tovar, and the deputy mayor and head of the social area, Noelia Arroyo.“The pharmacy is a strategic place because it maintains a personal and periodic relationship with many older people who need medication on a regular basis.
The pharmacist has the power to detect a prolonged absence and give us the notice so that we put in place the appropriate mechanisms and ensure that this person is well and has the care they need.
”Pharmacists will have a telephone and email contact with the Senior Area of ??Social Services to communicate any news that makes them suspect a threat to the safety of the elderly, especially for those who live alone.
The social workers will activate the necessary resources in each case to confirm that these people are safe in their homes, they will give them immediate assistance and they will provide them with the social aids they may need.Arroyo thanked the president of the school for this new form of collaboration, which comes after the participation of pharmacists from Cartagena in the campaign to collect diving masks for their transformation into protective equipment for toilets.
The pharmacy network was essential for citizens to be able to deliver these equipment without major displacement in the most rigorous weeks of confinement.
