| The Community has been asked for permission to operate in protected areas and farmers have been asked to use their best practices in planting and fertilizing the fields | The Department of Health has reinforced prevention actions on mosquito and rodent pests with the aim of mitigating the effects of the DANAs suffered in recent months and the foreseeable arrival of high temperatures.
In this way, from the area headed by the deputy mayor, Manuel Padín, the General Directorate for the Natural Environment has been required to authorize biological fight treatments in all the protected areas of the municipal area of ??Cartagena."We cannot stand idly by on issues as important as the foreseeable proliferation of insect pests in the coming months due to the storms experienced and the rise in the water table caused by the closure of irrigation wells in recent years," highlighted the councilor, who recalled that "our efforts are focused on the Coronavirus crisis, but we must also anticipate the day after overcoming this situation and that is why we have implemented our actions to prevent future pests as much as possible." For this reason, the action of the competent administrations has also been required in those areas that do not depend on the City Council, such as Calblanque or the Salinas de Marchamalo. The mayor has recalled that an extraordinary effort has been requested from his area to the rat and disinfection concession company.
"It has been a main objective of this department to anticipate events and already in November we put on the table a crash plan that has begun to be implemented this year and which also focuses on the cleaning of lots, starting with the municipal ones," the councilor insisted.
Thus, a tool has been created to streamline notifications to require owners to maintain private plots.
In this sense, Manuel Padín has asked the owners to act on them, even though no cleaning request has come to them; like the owners of water ponds or swimming pools, which can be a major focus of mosquito proliferation. It has also put the accent on the landscaped areas of the second residences that, with the last rains, have generated stagnations of water.
"Maintenance is essential," stressed the deputy mayor.Letter to farmersThe Health area has also sent a letter to the main farmers' associations of the municipality (ASAJA, COAG and UPA) in which they have requested their collaboration with the code of good practices regarding planting and fertilizing the land, and even in the removal of crop residues.
"Last year they collaborated with us and we are sure that this year, with more reasons and reasons, they will do it again," said the councilman.Garbage depositFinally, the mayor of Health has emphasized public awareness and has asked for extreme care when depositing garbage in containers.
"Is a responsibility of all.
The residues cannot be left on the outside of the container because they become a claim for rodents or other animals that break the bags and attract more filth, "he said.
In addition, he recalled that it is prohibited to deposit garbage in gardens, common areas or open areas, so he has asked for the collaboration of citizens."From the City Councils we will continue working, even more energetically, in these aspects, but a bad practice in the garbage deposit generates a greater performance of the municipal services and causes an investment that could be allocated to other works if we all acted as we should in waste management ”, the deputy mayor has finished.
