Cáritas and the Red Cross intensify their collaboration in the Social Emergency Operation that the Cartagena City Council launched when the confinement began to respond to those families that did not have guaranteed basic food, hygiene and cleaning supplies.
The Food Bank has been collaborating with this initiative since it started almost a month ago, as have other organizations such as Sena and El Buen Samaritano.
“Networking is essential because we share the same objective and, in this way, we will achieve greater efficiency, maximizing the resources available.
We think it is very positive that Cáritas and the Red Cross are even more involved in this project, in which the Food Bank, Sena and El Buen Samaritano had been collaborating and that is allowing us to help more than six hundred families in the municipality, providing them with food, hygiene and cleaning products â€, highlighted Mayor Ana Belén Castejón.
At the meeting, the operation of the Emergency Social Operative was reviewed and formulas were studied to increase coordination between the City Council and entities in the food collection and distribution system, with the idea of moving towards a second phase in which the Services Municipal social will reinforce the work on a broader catalog of benefits.
In this sense, special emphasis has been placed on the need for all the actions carried out to guarantee the food supply to those who need it most, to be centralized from the Emergency Operative, in which the Town Hall and social entities.
“Individual initiatives are highly laudable but can lead to duplication and make donations less effective.
We have made this operation very effective and fast, which is what families need at the moment.
It is a very well prepared gear and we want it to continue working like this.
Without a doubt, the help of Cáritas, the Red Cross and the Food Bank will contribute to this, "said the mayor.
Food campaigns must be coordinated by the City Council and the NGOs so that all aid reaches those who need it, avoid duplication and combat picaresque.
The coronavirus crisis has generated a wave of solidarity in the municipality that it is important to properly channel to avoid mismanagement of resources, since the Social Emergency Operation has been able to respond to families thanks to the City Council's own resources and numerous donations have been received.
“It is very important that donations continue to be channeled through the City Council and the collaborating organizations, since we share all the information about those who need help and we have the means to reach all the people of Cartagena who need food.
Those who want to collaborate are welcome and can do so, either by making their donation directly at the pavilion, or by giving it to the collaborating entities or through the FCC Business, â€said Castejón.
