The mayor calls for the installation of pontoons in the Mar Menor to flee the artificial beaches and reiterates the need for a Commissioner to be created (07/04/2020)

The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, stressed this Tuesday, April 7, the need to install pontoons in the Mar Menor to facilitate bathing on the coast while the spas are not available, during the telematic meeting she has held with the counselor of the Environment, Antonio Luengo;

the director of the Mar Menor, Miriam Pérez;

and the riverside mayors.

Castejón, who has agreed with the mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Cervera, on the importance of having these facilities while there are no spas, has also highlighted the need to flee from artificial beaches.

“We must avoid actions that in the long term are negative for the ecosystem and harmful for the environment, and artificial beaches are.

For this reason, while the spas are not installed, we should be able to have artificial pontoons, as my colleague Mario has also pointed out, â€he explained.

The Mayor has expressed her concern about the situation of the Mar Menor and has supported the need to send a letter to the Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, requesting the creation of a Commissioner of the Mar Menor, who is in permanent contact with the riverside municipalities. and with the Autonomous Community, and get to know the reality of the Mar Menor first hand and not from the distance of an office in Madrid.

“I have spent at least two years demanding the creation of a Commissioner because it really is necessary.

The Mar Menor does not understand political colors or differences, but requires cooperation, collaboration and union.

That is why I have also exposed the convenience of all the riverside mayors attending a meeting with the minister to highlight the peculiarities of each area, something that my colleagues have supported, â€said Castejón.

On the proposal presented by the councilor to install a turbine system as a corrective measure against the anoxia that threatens the Mar Menor, the mayor has shown her support as long as it is technically and environmentally viable and does not generate controversy and doubts such as those caused by the finnish spider.

Zero Dumping Plan

On the other hand, Castejón has agreed with the rest of the riverside mayors on the need to know what prevents the actions of the Zero Dumping Plan from being definitively implemented.

“It is necessary to act now and not continue waiting.

If there is any legal difficulty, explain it to us and give us solutions, "asked the mayor.

Likewise, it has requested information on the situation of the Pumping Station of the Rambla del Albujón, which is also essential to stop the spills.

“We have been waiting for its implementation for many years, which does not come.

Between each other, we do not know who is responsible, but it is a fundamental action that has been stopped for too long, which seriously damages our municipalities.

This situation must be unblocked â€, concluded Castejón.
