The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejon, requires the Government Delegation in the Region of Murcia more personal and more forceful in access controls to coastal towns to stop the arrival of tourists from other municipalities to the Cartagena coasts, to despite the mandatory confinement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Despite the fact that the delegate announced that the controls were going to be intensified, we have detected, as already happened on the San José bridge, the arrival of citizens who are moving from other communities to their second residence in our municipality.
Something that, in the state of alarm and forced confinement in which we find ourselves, we cannot allow, ”said the mayor.
For this reason, Ana Belén Castejón considers it essential that the Government delegation, which is who has the powers, immediately increase the number of people assigned to road control as well as the sanctions for those who skip the confinement.
"Cartagena people are, in general, an example of civility, solidarity and responsibility in this tremendous health crisis since they have understood that the most important thing is to protect the health of everyone and that staying at home is how they help save lives since the healthcare system does not collapse.
For this reason, I will not consent to this situation and I will do everything in our power to prevent people with irresponsible behaviors, who come from abroad, jeopardizing the health of my neighbors.
It is time to act forcefully, courageously and responsibly against those who play with our health and with stability in our health system, "said the mayor.
The Cartagena City Council is collaborating loyally with the Government Delegation and with the Autonomous Community in whatever actions are required and will continue to do so.
"The Local Police is acting where the Delegation indicates, following its guidelines, as it should be in these difficult times.
But I demand the same loyalty of those who have the responsibility and the powers to guarantee our security in the state of Alarma, who is the Government Delegation and who must now act with greater force because, on the contrary, on the Easter bridge the tourist arrivals will increase with the serious risk that this entails ”, concluded Castejón.
