The City Council delivers 100 beds to the Hospital Santa María del Rosell donated by a businessman (03/04/2020)

This morning, the City Council of Cartagena delivered one hundred beds for the Hospital Santa María del Rosell to Health Area II, donated by a local businessman with the aim of expanding their capacity and being able to respond more effectively to the health crisis caused by the expansion of the COVID-19.

These one hundred new beds will enable two more hospitalization units to be enabled in the health area, those corresponding to the third and fourth floors of block C of the Rosell hospital, and to implement a complementary device for beds in the Rehabilitation area.

So far, the organizational reorientation of the Rosell hospital to face the impact of the COVD-19 epidemic has meant reorganizing the entire hospitalization of the compound so that uninfected patients can enter the different units and blocks on the fourth floor and be isolated from the rest of positive patients who will be admitted from today on lower levels.

The Health Area, in coordination with the Murcian Health Service (SMS) and the Ministry of Health, has prepared a Contingency Plan by which the University Hospital Complex of Cartagena may enable up to a thousand beds in the Santa Lucía and Rosell hospitals to cope with the care of patients who are presented by the COVID-19 epidemic.

To reach this figure, it was necessary to have 300 more beds, of which 100 have been achieved today thanks to the donation of a businessman and the intermediation of the City Council.

The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has expressed her satisfaction at being able to collaborate with Health in this terrible health crisis.

"The Murcian Health Service asked us for help because they needed beds for hospitals and could not get them because the companies that supplied them did not have them.

So I opened two fronts: I asked the government delegation for military beds and looked for possible donations from businessmen.

The delegate told me that it was not my competence and that I should ask Health.

So we focus on option 2, since, in short, the City Council is there to serve our neighbors and seek solutions when necessary, â€highlighted Castejón.

The City Council does not rule out that new beds may be received in the coming days.

"Our goal is to help Health in everything in our power.

The toilets are doing an incredible job, not only in Cartagena but throughout the country.

Therefore, we are here to serve you, from providing you with protection material, which is also being donated by different companies, to finding beds to prevent the system from collapsing.

Our priority is to face the crisis and do it in the best possible way, we are working on it and we will continue to do so in direct collaboration with Area II of Health and with the Ministry of Health, without losing sight of the Emergency Operation at any time. Social â€, indicated the mayor.
