This morning, in the plenary hall of the Consistorial Palace, and with the participation of the councilors of MC Cartagena, Jesús Giménez and Isabel García, an extraordinary session of the Information Commission on Finance and Interior was held, semi-presentially.
During it, the local government has presented the draft General Budget for the year 2020, as well as the proposal for the application to social spending of the surplus resulting from the liquidation of the 2019 financial year.
The last of these proposals, as previously announced, consisted of applying € 4,190,311 to social expenses.
However, a regulatory amendment that came into force yesterday has left it at just over € 800,000, with the remaining amount pending for future regulations.
Faced with this situation, the mayor of Cartagena have asked, along with other opposition groups, that the budget be withdrawn, a request that has not been met.
Subsequently, the MC councilor, Isabel García, has revealed that "from one day to the next, the government's proposal for 2020, which already included an unrealistic income forecast, has lowered social spending by more than 3 million euros, something unacceptable and unaffordable for Cartagena society in these times. That is why we have asked that the budget be reformulated to include them. "
García explained that "once again we have offered to help, but it seems that the Government is determined to continue the process, although it does not guarantee the social attention that is, together with aid to SMEs and the self-employed, the only thing that we all have clear that should be increased in 2020. "
Faced with the obstinacy of the Government, MC withdraws his amendments: "We are not going to leave Cartagena behind to wear down an Executive without reflexes"
Due to this situation, the mayor of Cartagena has confirmed that "our Group has decided to withdraw the amendments that we had presented because the Government's obstinacy leaves in the hands of the opposition that the budget that they are determined to approve incorporates aid and social spending and we are not going to leave Cartagena behind to wear down an Executive without reflections ".
García has concluded that "we will put on the table of the Government the budgetary readjustment that Cartagena needs and deserves, budgets that will not serve to excite, but must offer certainty to those who are having the most time and serve as a transition towards health, social and economic that the future holds.
