The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, today sent a letter to the president of the regional government, Fernando López Miras, in which he reiterated the need for the Hospitality of Santa Teresa to intervene to welcome homeless people from the municipality.
Royal Decree 463/2020, of March 14, declaring the state of alarm for the management of the health crisis situation by COVID-19 establishes the possibility of private spaces being intervened for the provision of public services , How is the case.
Likewise, the Royal Decree-Law, 8/2020, of March 18, on extraordinary urgent measures to face the economic and social impact of COVID-19, establishes in its article 1, sections d, e, i that can be adopted measures that the Autonomous Communities and Municipalities consider necessary to attend to especially vulnerable people.
"The situation has worsened over the days, so I am forced to reiterate my request that you temporarily assume the management of the Hospitality of Santa Teresa.
This center has the capacity to accommodate more people than those currently there, 25, because its managers decided to close it to new users on March 10, "explained Castejón.
The Hospitality has a capacity for more than 90 people, so those responsible for Social Services consider that it could accommodate 50 more people than are currently there.
“Today, we have people with addictions that we have been forced to stay in a hotel, which is not the right space because they have the freedom to leave and enter there, while the Hospitality of Santa Teresa is enabled to welcome passers-by and has with all the appropriate habitability and security measures ”, explained the mayor.
Ana Belén Castejón already requested last week to the Government Delegation that it will enable military installations or that the Hospitality intervene to welcome homeless people, so far there has been no response.
