The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has asked the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, to eventually intervene in the Hospitality of Santa Teresa to offer shelter to the homeless people currently in the municipality.

The Hospitality announced at the beginning of the health crisis that it was closing access to new arrivals, with only the 25 people remaining at that time being in its facilities.

"On March 10, the Hospitality managers sent us a letter informing us that until April 1 they would not admit anyone who was not in their programs," explained Castejón.

However, they have the capacity to accommodate, following health safety guidelines, at least 50 more people since they currently have an empty plant.

For this reason, the mayor has asked the Autonomous Community to take charge of these facilities, so that Administration personnel, volunteers or the military, if necessary, could attend to more homeless people in these dependencies.

So far, the El Coto Dorda Residential Center and hotel facilities that have given up the use of rooms for this purpose will be used to accommodate homeless people.

“The Hospitality of Santa Teresa has space and meets all the conditions to offer the best possible service to the homeless.

It is currently underused and that is something that in a crisis situation such as the current one we cannot afford, ”said Ana Belén Castejón.

The mayor will also forward this request to the government delegate, José Vélez.
